     Rt. Hon. Sir Samuel Roberts, 1st Bt. was born on 30 April 1852.2 He was the son of Samuel Roberts and Sarah Anne Sorby.3 He married Martha Susan Blakeney, daughter of Venerable John Edward Blakeney and Martha Darbyshire, on 21 December 1880.2 He died on 19 June 1926 at age 74.2
     He was educated at Repton School, Repton, Derbyshire, England.2 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1877 entitled to practise as a barrister.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the West Riding, Yorkshire.2 He held the office of Lord Mayor of Sheffield in 1900.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Eccleshall between 1902 and 1923.1 He was member of the Royal Commission for the King's Bench Division in 1913.2 He was appointed Knight in 1917.2 He was created 1st Baronet Roberts, of Ecclesall and Queen's Tower, City of Sheffield and West Riding of Yorkshire [U.K.] on 9 September 1919.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1922.2
