     Maj.-Gen. Sir John Swinton, 7th of Kimmerghame was born on 21 April 1925.1 He was the son of Brigadier Alan Henry Campbell Swinton, 6th of Kimmerghame and Mariora Beatrice Evelyn Rochfort Alers-Hankey.1 He married Judith Balfour Killen, daughter of Harold Killen, on 26 August 1954.1 He died on 4 October 2018 at age 93.2
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1943 and 1945, in North-West Europe, and was wounded twice.1 He fought in the Malayan Emergency between 1948 and 1951.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor-General of Australia between 1953 and 1954.1 He was admitted to Royal Company of Archers in 1954.1 He lived at Kimmerghame, Duns, Berwickshire, ScotlandG.3 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1969.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1979.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Berwickshire between 1980 and 1989.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Berwickshire in 1989.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Berwickshire between 1989 and 2000.1

Sir John Swinton, 7th of Kimmerghame, son of Brigadier Alan Henry Campbell Swinton, 6th of Kimmerghame and Mariora Beatrice Evelyn Rochfort Alers-Hankey, on 26 August 1954.1 She died on 24 October 2012 at age 83.2
     From 26 August 1954, her married name became Swinton.1
