Walter Bagenal was born circa 1670.1 He was the son of Colonel Dudley Bagenal and Ann Butler.1 He married, firstly, Eleanor Barnewall, daughter of James Barnewall.1 He married, secondly, Eleanor Beauchamp in 1740, they had an additional two children who died as infants.1 He died in 1745.1
He was able to regain the family estates from the Crown, eventually becoming a Protestant to secure them, and laid out what is now the centre of Bagenalstown in a foward looking attempt to establish a profitable trade route through his land.1 He lived at Dunleckney, Bagenalstown, County Carlow, IrelandG.1
