Alfred Thomas, 1st and last Baron Pontypridd was born on 16 September 1840 at Llwyngrant, Penylan, Cardiff, Glamorgan, WalesG.1 He was the son of Daniel Thomas.1 He died on 14 December 1927 at age 87, unmarried.1
He was educated at Penygroes Llanedarne School, Cardiff, Glamorgan, WalesG.1 He was educated at Weston School, Bath, Somerset, EnglandG.1 He was a contrator and owner of a lime works, and assisted i the construction of the Rhondda Fach branch of the Taff Vale Railway.1 He held the office of Mayor of Cardiff in 1881.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for East Glamorganshire between 1885 and 1911.1 He was chairman of the Welsh Parliamentary Party between 1897 and 1910.1 He was the President between 1901 and 1906 at University College, Cardiff, Glamorgan, WalesG.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1902.1 He was created 1st Baron Pontypridd, of Cardiff, co. Glamorgan [U.K.] on 8 February 1912.1

Henry John Wentworth Hodgetts-Foley was born on 9 December 1828.1 He was the son of John Hodgetts Hodgetts-Foley and Charlotte Margaret Gage.1 He was baptised on 22 December 1828 at All Souls, St. Marylebone, London, England.2 He married Hon. Jane Frances Anne Vivian, daughter of Richard Hussey Vivian, 1st Baron Vivian of Glynn and of Truro and Eliza Champion de Crespigny, on 12 December 1854.1 He died on 23 April 1894 at age 65.1 His will was proven (by probate) on 22 June 1894 at Longdon, Staffordshire, England.2
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for South Staffordshire between 1857 and 1868.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Worcestershire Militia.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He lived at Prestwood, Staffordshire, EnglandG.1
