Rt. Hon. Thomas Andrews was born on 26 February 1843.1 He was the son of John Andrews and Sarah Drennan.1 He married Eliza Pirrie, daughter of James Alexander Pirrie and Eliza Montgomery, on 15 September 1870.1 He died on 17 September 1916 at age 73.1
He was educated at Royal Belfast Academical Institution, Belfast, County Antrim, IrelandG.1 He was a partner in John Andrews & Company, later its Chairman in 1863.1 He was educated at Queen's College, Belfast, County Antrim, IrelandG.1 He was a promoter of the Great Ulster Convention in 1892.1 He was President of the Ulster Liberal Unionist Association between 1892 and 1916.1 He was a member of the Ulster Defence Union in 1893.1 He was member of the Recess Committee in 1895.1 He was Chairman of the Belfast & County Down Railway Company between 1895 and 1916.1 He held the office of Member of the Appeal Commission under the Local Government Act in 1898.1 He was Chairman of the Down Chamber of Commerce between 1902 and 1914.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) Margaret Montgomery Carlisle was the daughter of John Carlisle.1 She married William James Pirrie, 1st and last Viscount Pirrie, son of James Alexander Pirrie and Eliza Montgomery, on 17 April 1879.1 She died on 19 June 1935.1
From 17 April 1879, her married name became Pirrie.1 After her marriage, Margaret Montgomery Carlisle was styled as Baroness Pirrie on 17 July 1906. After her marriage, Margaret Montgomery Carlisle was styled as Viscountess Pirrie on 9 July 1921. She was president of Harland and Wolff in 1924.1
