     Elizabeth Gibbes was the daughter of Sir Philip Gibbes, 1st Bt.1 She married Charles Abbot, 1st Baron Colchester of Colchester, son of Reverend John Abbot and Sarah Farr, on 29 December 1796.1 She died on 10 June 1847.1
     From 29 December 1796, her married name became Abbot.1 After her marriage, Elizabeth Gibbes was styled as Baroness Colchester of Colchester on 3 June 1817.

     Charles Abbot, 2nd Baron Colchester of Colchester was born on 12 March 1798.1 He was the son of Charles Abbot, 1st Baron Colchester of Colchester and Elizabeth Gibbes.1 He married Hon. Elizabeth Susan Law, daughter of Edward Law, 1st Baron Ellenborough and Anne Towry, on 4 February 1836.1 He died on 18 October 1867 at age 69.1
     He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Devon, EnglandG.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Colchester of Colchester, co. Essex [U.K., 1817] on 8 May 1829.1 He held the office of President of the Royal Geographic Society between 1845 and 1847.1 He held the office of Postmaster-General between 1850 and 1859.1 He held the office of Vice-President of the Board of Trade in 1852.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1852.1 He held the office of Paymaster-General in 1852.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1854.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1860.1 He gained the rank of Admiral in 1864.1

     After her marriage, Hon. Elizabeth Susan Law was styled as Baroness Colchester of Colchester on 4 February 1836. From 4 February 1836, her married name became Abbot.1
