Horace Brand Farquhar, 1st and last Earl Farquhar was born on 18 May 1844.1 He was the son of Sir Walter Minto Townsend-Farquhar, 2nd Bt. and Erica Catherine Mackay.1 He married Emilie Packe, daughter of Lt.-Col. Henry Packe, on 5 January 1895.2 He died on 30 August 1923 at age 79, without issue.2

Erica Catherine Mackay was born illegitimately.1 She was the daughter of Eric Mackay, 7th Lord Reay.1 She married Sir Walter Minto Townsend-Farquhar, 2nd Bt., son of Sir Robert Townsend-Farquhar, 1st Bt. and Maria Frances Geslip de Lautour, on 25 August 1835.2 She died on 21 January 1899.2
