Sir John Pender was born on 10 September 1816.1 He was the son of James Pender and Marion Mason.1 He married, firstly, Marion Cearns, daughter of James Cearns, on 28 November 1840.2 He married, secondly, Emma Denison, daughter of Henry Denison, on 12 June 1851.2 He died on 7 July 1896 at age 79.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Totnes between 1865 and 1866.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wick between 1872 and 1885.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lancashire.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lancashire.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.)2
