     George Philip Stanhope, 8th Earl of Chesterfield was born on 29 November 1822.1 He was the son of George Charles Stanhope and Jane Galbraith.1 He married, firstly, Marianne Roche, daughter of William Roche, on 8 April 1856.1 He married, secondly, Catherine Jane Jarvis Bond, daughter of John Hildebrand Bond, on 7 March 1877.1 He married, thirdly, Agnes Payne, daughter of James Payne, on 7 December 1882.1 He died on 19 October 1883 at age 60 at Killendarragh, Lifford, County Donegal, IrelandG, without surviving issue.1 His will was proven (by probate) on 22 March 1884 at Londonderry, County Londonderry, IrelandG, at under £4,500.1
     He gained the rank of Ensign in 1841 in the 29th Foot.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in April 1842.1 He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Chesterfield, co. Derby [E., 1628] on 7 July 1873.1 He succeeded as the 8th Baron Stanhope of Shelford, co. Nottingham [E., 1616] on 7 July 1873.1 He lived at Rockwood, Strabane, County Tyrone, IrelandG.1

Marianne Roche1

     Marianne Roche was born circa 1837.1 She was the daughter of William Roche.1 She married George Philip Stanhope, 8th Earl of Chesterfield, son of George Charles Stanhope and Jane Galbraith, on 8 April 1856.1 She died on 18 December 1875 at Alma Hotel, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, from an overdose of laudanum, without surviving issue.1 She was buried at Dean Cemetery, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1
     From 8 April 1856, her married name became Stanhope.1 After her marriage, Marianne Roche was styled as Countess of Chesterfield on 7 July 1873.

     Edwyn Francis Stanhope was born in 1729.2 He was the son of Charles Stanhope and Cecilia Stede.3,2 He married Catherine Brydges, daughter of John Brydges, Marquess of Carnarvon and Catherine Tollemache, on 9 August 1753.2 He died on 16 May 1807.2

     Rear-Admiral Sir Henry Edwyn Stanhope, 1st Bt. was born on 21 May 1754.2,3 He was the son of Edwyn Francis Stanhope and Catherine Brydges.1,2 He married Margaret Malbone, daughter of Francis Malbone, on 14 August 1783.4,3 He died on 20 December 1814 at age 60.4
     He fought in the Battle of Copenhagen.2 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral of the Blue.2 He was created 1st Baronet Stanhope, of Stanwell House, co. Middlesex [U.K.] on 13 November 1807.1
