     Hugh Montgomerie, 1st Earl of Eglinton was born circa 1460.2 He was the son of Alexander Montgomerie, Master of Montgomerie and Catherine Kennedy.2 He married Lady Helen Campbell, daughter of Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll and Isabel Stewart, on 21 April 1478.2 He died in June 1545.2
     He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Montgomerie [S., 1445] in 1470.2 He fought in the Battle of Sauchieburn in 1488, against King James III.2 In 1488 he was granted the Island of Arran for life, by the newly created King James IV.2 He held the office of Constable of Rothesay Castle in 1489.2 He held the office of Bailie of Bute in 1489.2 He held the office of Justiciary of Bute in 1489.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland]2 He was created 1st Earl of Eglinton [Scotland] from 3 January 1506/7 to 20 January 1506/7.2

     Lady Helen Campbell was the daughter of Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll and Isabel Stewart.1 She married Hugh Montgomerie, 1st Earl of Eglinton, son of Alexander Montgomerie, Master of Montgomerie and Catherine Kennedy, on 21 April 1478.1
     From 21 April 1478, her married name became Montgomerie.2 After her marriage, Lady Helen Campbell was styled as Countess of Eglinton in 1507.

     Alexander Montgomerie, Master of Montgomerie was born in 1404 at Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.2 He was the son of Alexander Montgomerie, 1st Lord Montgomerie and Margaret Boyd.1 He married Elizabeth Hepburn, daughter of Sir Adam Hepburn of Hailes and Janet Borthwick.3 He died in 1452.1
     He was styled as Master of Montgomerie in 1445.1

Sir Adam Hepburn of Hailes1

     Sir Adam Hepburn of Hailes was the son of Patrick Hepburn of Hailes, younger and unknown Vaux.2 He married Janet Borthwick, daughter of Sir William Borthwick, 1st of Borthwick, circa 2 November 1411.2 He died circa 1446.3
     He was one of the Commissioners sent to England to treat for the release of King James I of Scotland in 1423.2

     Alexander Montgomerie, Master of Montgomerie was born circa 1445.1 He was the son of Alexander Montgomerie, Master of Montgomerie and Elizabeth Hepburn.2 He married Catherine Kennedy, daughter of Gilbert Kennedy of Dunure, 1st Lord Kennedy and Catherine Maxwell, before 1459.1 He died circa 1468.1
     He was styled as Master of Montgomerie.2

     Gilbert Kennedy of Dunure, 1st Lord Kennedy was born circa 1406.2 He was the son of Sir James Kennedy of Dunure, younger and Lady Mary Stewart.2 He married, firstly, Catherine Maxwell, daughter of Herbert Maxwell, 1st Lord Maxwell and unknown daughter Herries, circa 1440.3 He married, secondly, Isabel Ogilvy, daughter of Sir Walter Ogilvy of Lintrathen and Isabel Glen, after 1460.2 He died after 6 March 1478/79.3
     He held the office of Keeper of the Castle of Lochdoun.3 He was created 1st Lord Kennedy [Scotland] from 27 March 1457 to 20 March 1457/58.3 In 1460 on the death of King James II, he was one of the six Regents of Scotland.3 He held the office of Constable of Stirling Castle in 1466.3
