Sir John Erskine of Alva, 3rd Bt. was born in June 1675 at Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, Scotland.2 He was the son of Sir Charles Erskine of Alva, 1st Bt. and Christian Dundas.3 He married Catherine St. Clair, daughter of Henry St. Clair, 1st/10th Lord Sinclair and Grizel Cockburn.1 He died on 12 March 1739 at age 63 at Isle of Man.4
He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Erskine, of Alva [N.S., 1666] on 23 July 1693.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Clackmannanshire [Scotland] between 1700 and 1702.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Burntisland [Scotland] between 1703 and 1707.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Burntisland from 1707 to 1708.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Clackmannanshire between 1713 and 1715.4
