Brig.-Gen. Hugh Roderick Stockley

     Brig.-Gen. Hugh Roderick Stockley was born on 23 March 1868.1 He was the son of Colonel Henry Watts Stockley.1 He married Edith Beatrice Capel, daughter of Lt.-Col. William Capel, in 1904.1 He died on 3 March 1935 at age 66.1
     He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was commissioned in 1887, in the service of the Royal Engineers.1 He fought in the Hazara Expedition in 1891.1 He fought in the Waziristan Campaign between 1894 and 1895.1 He fought in the North-West Frontier between 1897 and 1898, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1898.1 He fought in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, where he was again mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1906.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1914.1 He was the Commandant between 1915 and 1917 at Cadet College, Wellington, IndiaG.1 He fought in the First World War between 1917 and 1918, with the Mesopotamian Expeditioanry Force, and was again mentioned in despatches.1 He retired from the military in 1922.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.)2 He lived at Alkerton Grange, Eastington, Gloucestershire, England.2 He lived at Tudor House, Oaksey, Wiltshire, EnglandG.3

     Henry Meysey Meysey-Thompson, 1st and last Baron Knaresborough was born on 30 August 1845.2 He was the son of Sir Harry Stephen Meysey-Thompson, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Anne Croft.2,3 He married Ethel Adeline Pottinger, daughter of Sir Henry Pottinger, 3rd Bt., on 21 April 1885.2 He died on 3 March 1929 at age 83, without surviving male issue.2
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1868 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Meysey-Thompson, of Kirby Hall, co. York [U.K., 1874] on 17 May 1874.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Knaresborough in 1880, but on a petition the election was declared void.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Lincolnshire, Briggs Division between 1885 and 1886.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Staffordshire, Handsworth Division between 1892 and 1905.2 He was created 1st Baron Knaresborough, of Kirby Hall, co. York [U.K.] on 26 December 1905.2 He was chairman of the North Eastern Railway.2 On his death, his barony became extinct.2
