Sir John Erskine, 5th of Dun was born in 1509.2 He was the son of John Erskine of Dun, younger and Margaret Ruthven.2 He married by contract, firstly, Elizabeth Lindsay, daughter of David Lindsay, 8th Earl of Crawford and Lady Elizabeth Hay, on 25 December 1525.2 He died on 22 March 1589/90.2
