Richard William Davenport Legh, 3rd Baron Newton was born on 18 November 1888.1 He was the son of Thomas Wodehouse Legh, 2nd Baron Newton and Evelyn Caroline Bromley Davenport.1 He married Hon. Helen Winifred Meysey-Thompson, daughter of Henry Meysey Meysey-Thompson, 1st and last Baron Knaresborough and Ethel Adeline Pottinger, on 28 January 1914.1 He died on 11 June 1960 at age 71.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was Attache to Constantinople and Vienna between 1912 and 1914.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Lancashire Hussars.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cheshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Cheshire.1 He was with the War Office between 1940 and 1943.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Newton, of Newton-in-Makerfield, co.
