David Vivian Penrose Lewis, 1st and last Baron Brecon was born on 14 August 1905 at Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales.1,2 He was the son of Alfred William Lewis and Elizabeth Mary Morgan.1,2 He married Mabel Helen McColville, daughter of John McColville and Martha Probert, on 19 April 1933.1 He died on 10 October 1976 at age 71.1
He was educated at Monmouth School, Monmouth, Monmouthshire, WalesG.1 He held the office of member of the Brecon District Council between 1938 and 1949.3 He held the office of member of the Brecon County Council between 1946 and 1958.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Brecon.3 He held the office of Minister of State for Welsh Affairs between 1957 and 1964.3 He was created 1st Baron Brecon, of Llanfeigan, co. Brecknock [U.K.] on 30 January 1958.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1960.4 On his death, his barony became extinct.3

She was educated at St. Alban's ConventG.3 From 19 April 1933, her married name became Lewis.1 After her marriage, Mabel Helen McColville was styled as Baroness Brecon on 30 January 1958. She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Breconshire in 1960.3 She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1964.3 She held the office of High Sheriff of Breconshire between 1971 and 1972.3
