Geoffrey Henry Browne, 1st Baron Mereworth1

     Geoffrey Henry Browne, 1st Baron Mereworth was born on 6 January 1861.2 He was the son of Geoffrey Dominick Augustus Frederick Guthrie, 2nd Baron Oranmore and Browne and Christina Guthrie.2 He married Lady Olwen Verena Ponsonby, daughter of Edward Ponsonby, 8th Earl of Bessborough and Blanche Vere Guest, on 2 January 1901.1 He died on 30 June 1927 at age 66.2
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.2 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1883 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1886 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Mayo in 1890.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland]2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Ayrshire.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Mayo.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Mayo.2 He was appointed Knight of Justice, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.J.St.J.)2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Oranmore and Browne of Carra Browne Castle in Oranmore, in the county of the town of Galway and of Castle Mac Garrett in the county of Mayo [I., 1836] on 15 November 1900.2 He was appointed Representative Peer [Ireland] in 1902.2 He was member of the Irish Convention between 1917 and 1918.2 He was appointed Knight, Order of St. Patrick (K.P.) in 1918.2 He was Commissioner of the Congested Districts, Ireland in 1919.2 He held the office of Senator [Irish Free State] in 1921.2 He was created 1st Baron Mereworth, of Mereworth Castle, co. Kent [U.K.] on 19 January 1926.2

     Lady Helena Blanche Irene Ponsonby was born on 16 June 1878.1 She was the daughter of Edward Ponsonby, 8th Earl of Bessborough and Blanche Vere Guest.1 She married Major John Congreve, son of Ambrose Congreve and Hon. Alice Elizabeth Dillon, on 26 July 1904.1 She died on 28 January 1962 at age 83.1
     From 26 July 1904, her married name became Congreve.1
