     Archibald Borthwick was born on 13 May 1732 at Inveresk, East Lothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was the son of Patrick Borthwick and Marion Scott.¹ He married Margaret Nicholson Scott, daughter of James Scott, on 17 April 1777.² He died on 13 July 1815 at age 83.¹ He was buried at Greyfriars Cemetery, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.
     He succeeded as the 16th Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] on 6 October 1772, although he never used his title.¹ He was a merchant at Christiansund, Norway^G.¹ In 1807 he presented a petition to claim his title.¹

     Margaret Nicholson Scott was the daughter of James Scott.¹ She married Archibald Borthwick, son of Patrick Borthwick and Marion Scott, on 17 April 1777.¹ She died on 8 December 1833.¹
     From 17 April 1777, her married name became Borthwick.¹

     James Scott held the office of Clerk to the Signet.¹

     Patrick Borthwick was born on 12 September 1779.¹ He was the son of Archibald Borthwick and Margaret Nicholson Scott.¹ He married Ariana Corbet, daughter of Cunninghame Corbet, on 13 November 1804 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.¹ He died on 12 April 1840 at age 60.¹ He was buried on 16 April 1840 at Greyfriars, Scotland^G.¹
     He was a manager at the National Bank of Scotland at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He succeeded as the 17th Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] on 13 July 1815, although he never used his title.¹ On 8 April 1816 he claimed his peerage.¹

     Ariana Corbet was the daughter of Cunninghame Corbet.¹ She married Patrick Borthwick, son of Archibald Borthwick and Margaret Nicholson Scott, on 13 November 1804 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.¹ She died on 30 December 1836.¹
     From 13 November 1804, her married name became Borthwick.¹

     Cunninghame Corbet was a merchant at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.¹ He lived at Tolcross, Scotland^G.¹

     Archibald Borthwick was born on 31 August 1811.¹ He was the son of Patrick Borthwick and Ariana Corbet.¹ He married Mary Louisa Home, daughter of John Home Home, on 1 August 1840.¹ He died on 3 July 1863 at age 51, without surviving male issue.¹
     He succeeded as the 18th Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] on 12 April 1840, although he never used his title.¹

     Mary Louisa Home was the daughter of John Home Home.¹ She married Archibald Borthwick, son of Patrick Borthwick and Ariana Corbet, on 1 August 1840.¹ She died on 22 November 1868.¹
     From 1 August 1840, her married name became Borthwick.¹

     Cunninghame Borthwick, 19th Lord Borthwick was born on 6 June 1813.¹ He was the son of Patrick Borthwick and Ariana Corbet.¹ He was baptised on 17 June 1813 at East Leith, Scotland^G.¹ He married Harriet Alice Day, daughter of Thomas Hermitage Day, on 18 July 1865.¹ He died on 24 December 1885 at age 72 at Ravenstone Castle, Wigtownshire, Scotland^G.¹
     He was educated at Edinburgh High School, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was educated at University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was a member of the London Stock Exchange from 1853 to 1877.¹ He succeeded as the 19th Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] on 3 July 1863.¹ In 1870 he purchased the estate of Ravenstone, Wigtonshire.¹ On 5 May 1870 his claim to the peerage was allowed.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) on 25 May 1871.¹ He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1880 and 1885.¹
