John Bateman, 2nd Viscount Bateman was born in April 1721.1 He was the son of William Bateman, 1st Viscount Bateman and Lady Anne Spencer.1 He married Elizabeth Sambrooke, daughter of John Sambrooke and Elizabeth Forester, on 2 July 1748 at St. Anne's, Soho, London, EnglandG.2 He died on 2 March 1802 at age 80 at Shobdon Court, Herefordshire, EnglandG, without issue.1 His will (dated 24 May 1784 to 28 June 1800) was proven (by probate) on 15 April 1802.1
He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Bateman [I., 1725] in December 1744.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Culmore, co. Londonderry [I., 1725] in December 1744.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Orford from 1746 to 1747.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Woodstock between 1747 and 1768.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire between 1747 and 1802.1 He held the office of Chief Steward of Leominster.1 He held the office of a Lord of the Admiralty from 1755 to 1756.1 He held the office of Treasurer of the Household from 1756 to 1757.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 19 November 1756.2 He held the office of Master of the Buckhounds between 1757 and 1782.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Leominster between 1768 and 1784.1
On his death, his titles became extinct.2

Elizabeth Sambrooke was born circa 1725.1 She was the daughter of John Sambrooke and Elizabeth Forester.1 She married John Bateman, 2nd Viscount Bateman, son of William Bateman, 1st Viscount Bateman and Lady Anne Spencer, on 2 July 1748 at St. Anne's, Soho, London, EnglandG.1 She died on 20 December 1802 at Argyle Street, London, EnglandG.1 Her will was proven (by probate) on 12 January 1803, when she bequeated £5,000 per year to her nephew, Charles Sackville, Duke of Dorset.1
