     Dunbar Douglas, 4th Earl of Selkirk was born on 1 December 1722.1 He was the son of Basil Hamilton and Isabella Mackenzie.1 He married Helen Hamilton, daughter of Hon. John Hamilton and Margaret Home, on 3 December 1758.1 He died on 26 March 1799 at age 76 at George Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was buried on 31 May 1799 at Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1
     He was given the name of Dunbar Hamilton at birth.1 He was educated at University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1 On 3 December 1744 his name was legally changed to Dunbar Douglas.1 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Selkirk [S., 1646] on 3 December 1744.1 He succeeded as the 4th Lord Daer and Shortcleuch [S., 1646] on 3 December 1744.1 In 1745 he supported the Government during the Jacobite rising.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) by University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG, in 1745.1 He held the office of Lord Rector of the University of Glasgow between 1766 and 1768.1 He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1787 and 1799.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright.1

Isabella Mackenzie1

     Isabella Mackenzie was the daughter of Colonel Hon. Alexander Mackenzie and Elizabeth Paterson.1,2 She married Basil Hamilton, son of Hon. Basil Hamilton and Mary Dunbar of Baldoon, on 14 March 1719.3 She died on 6 April 1725.1
     From 14 March 1719, her married name became Hamilton.

     Colonel Hon. Alexander Mackenzie was born on 9 June 1673 at Scotland.2 He was the son of Kenneth Mackenzie, 3rd Earl of Seaforth and Isabel Mackenzie.1,2,3 He married Elizabeth Paterson, daughter of John Paterson, in 1700.3,2 He died circa 1727 at Scotland.2

Kenneth Mackenzie, 4th Earl of Seaforth1

     Kenneth Mackenzie, 4th Earl of Seaforth was baptised on 8 December 1661.2 He was the son of Kenneth Mackenzie, 3rd Earl of Seaforth and Isabel Mackenzie.2 He married Lady Frances Herbert, daughter of William Herbert, 1st Marquess of Powis and Lady Elizabeth Somerset.2 He died in January 1700/1 at age 39.2
     He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Seaforth [S., 1623] in December 1678.2 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Mackenzie of Kintail [S., 1609] in December 1678.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1686.2 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1687.2 He was created 1st Earl of Fortrose [Scotland] circa 1690, Jacobite.2 He was created 1st Marquess of Seaforth [Scotland] circa 1690, Jacobite.2 He was created 1st Viscount Fortrose [Scotland] circa 1690, Jacobite.2 He was created 1st Baron Fortrose [Scotland] circa 1690, Jacobite.2 In 1690 he attempted a Jacobite uprising in the North of Scotland, was captured and imprisoned in Edinburgh and Inverness Castles until March 1606/7.2 He accompanied King James II to France and Ireland, and assisted in the siege of Londondery.2

     Hon. Basil Hamilton was born circa December 1671.1 He was the son of William Douglas-Hamilton, 1st Earl of Selkirk and Anne Hamilton, 3rd Duchess of Hamilton.1 He was baptised on 16 December 1671.3 He married Mary Dunbar of Baldoon, daughter of David Dunbar of Baldoon and Lady Eleanor Montgomerie, in 1691.3 He died on 27 August 1701 at Minnick Water, Galloway, ScotlandG, drowned in the ford, while trying to save his servant, who had tried the ford and was swept away.1

     Mary Dunbar of Baldoon was born in 1677.2 She was the daughter of David Dunbar of Baldoon and Lady Eleanor Montgomerie.1 She married Hon. Basil Hamilton, son of William Douglas-Hamilton, 1st Earl of Selkirk and Anne Hamilton, 3rd Duchess of Hamilton, in 1691.3 She died on 15 May 1760.2

David Dunbar of Baldoon1

     David Dunbar of Baldoon was the son of Sir David Dunbar of Baldoon, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth McCulloch.1,2 He married, firstly, Janet Dalrymple, daughter of James Dalrymple, 1st Viscount of Stair and Margaret Ross, on 12 August 1669.3 He married, secondly, Lady Eleanor Montgomerie, daughter of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Mary Leslie, in 1674.3 He died on 20 March 1682.1

Sir David Dunbar of Baldoon, 1st Bt.1

     Sir David Dunbar of Baldoon, 1st Bt. was born circa 1610.2 He was the son of Archibald Dunbar and Mary (?)3 He married, firstly, Elizabeth McCulloch, daughter of John McCulloch of Myretown, in May 1641.2 He married, secondly, Anna Sydserf, daughter of Sir Archibald Sydserf of Lowden, in 1666.2 He died on 12 December 1686.
     He gained the title of 1st Baronet Dunbar, of Baldoon [Nova Scotia] on 13 October 1664, with special remainder to the heirs male of his body and to his heirs of tailzie succeeding him in his lands.1 On his death, his baronetcy became dormant until 1 June 1916.2
