     Robert Balfour, Lord Balfour of Burleigh married by contract, firstly, Margaret Balfour, Baroness Balfour of Burleigh, daughter of Michael Balfour, 1st Lord Balfour of Burleigh and Margaret Lundie, on 30 August 1606.2 He married, secondly, Margaret (?) before 1639.3 He died on 10 August 1663 at Burleigh Castle, Orwell, Kinross-shire, ScotlandG.2 He was buried on 12 August 1663.2
     He was given the name of Robert Arnot at birth.2 His name was legally changed to Robert Balfour.2 On 25 January 1621 he sat as a Peer in Parliament.2 He was styled as Lord Balfour of Burleigh on 25 January 1621.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)      Robert Kerr, 1st Marquess of Lothian was born on 8 March 1636 at Newbottle, ScotlandG.3 He was the son of William Kerr, 1st Earl of Lothian and Lady Anne Kerr.3,4 A contract for the marriage of Robert Kerr, 1st Marquess of Lothian and Lady Jean Campbell was signed in January 1660/61.4 He died on 15 February 1702/3 at age 66.4

     Lady Jean Campbell was the daughter of Archibald Campbell, 1st Marquess of Argyll and Lady Margaret Douglas.1 A contract for the marriage of Lady Jean Campbell and Robert Kerr, 1st Marquess of Lothian was signed in January 1660/61.2 She died on 31 July 1712.
     From January 1660/61, her married name became Kerr. After her marriage, Lady Jean Campbell was styled as Countess of Lothian in October 1675. After her marriage, Lady Jean Campbell was styled as Marchioness of Lothian on 23 June 1701.
