Department of Operations and Management Information Systems

The management of information systems and operations efficiency and effectiveness have become critical competitive factors in the 21st century. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) for example, have transformed the nature and scope of operations for many firms and become a significant factor for achieving organizational success. This has created a very high, global demand for operations management experts and professionals with the expertise to align ICTs with business strategies to achieve corporate objectives. Academics are also in high demand to research into operations performance strategies, ICT design, development and implementation in both the private and the public sector. With this underpinning its mission, the Department of Operations & Management Information Systems (OMIS) is founded on the interaction between the management of information systems and related technologies and the operations management disciplines. The primary goal of the department is to develop the capacity of two categories of graduates; one category trained with the philosophical, critical and analytical skills for researching, teaching and developing sustainable solutions to the opportunities and challenges in adopting, implementing and using information systems in the local communities, firms, institutions in Ghana, Africa and beyond. The second category of graduates are developed with specialization in operations management and management science to practice, teach and consult for industry. The Department of OMIS has one undergraduate programme and a number postgraduate programmes. The department’s programmes are run on regular, weekend and sandwich routes.
