Other Information | First Manchester was created in March 1996 when the operator GM Buses North was bought by FirstBus. GM Buses North itself had been created in 1993 when GM Buses was split into two operations. First Manchester also managed First Pennine, although this operation was later merged into First Manchester. In September 2010 the company took over the management of First Potteries operations of Birkenhead and Chester. In early 2012 the company was rebranded First Greater Manchester to reflect it`s changed operating area. In December 2012 they sold their Wigan depot to Stagecoach Manchester. In January 2013 the operations in Chester, Birkenhead and a school bus outstation in Wrexham were sold to Stagecoach Merseyside. In February 2014 First Greater Manchester purchased the bus operations of Finglands, which had been part of the EYMS Group. First Group hit hard financial times in 2017, this led to the closure of the Bury and Tameside depots. 2019 saw the sale of Queens Road depot in Cheetham Hill to the Go-Ahead Group, which led to the formation of Go North West. Later in 2019 the Bolton depot was also sold, passing to Diamond North West. These sales leave First Greater Manchester`s operation running from Oldham depot. Depots: - Oldham |
