Tal como lo es en el cómic, el personaje central es Static, un superhéroe adolescente con poderes electromagnéticos, y que es el alter ego de Virgil Ovid Hawkins, un estudiante de una ciudad ficticia llamada Dakota. Dentro de esta serie animada, el mejor amigo de Static se llama Richie Foley (basado en un personaje del cómic ya mencionado) el cual pasa a ser más tarde compañero de Static en la lucha contra el crimen debido a una exposición a un gas que le da súper inteligencia y aptitud para la tecnología, razón por la cual pasa a ser conocido como o Techno. En Estados Unidos la serie se estrenó en septiembre de 2000 dentro del bloque Kids' WB y finalizó en mayo de 2004, totalizando 4 temporadas de 13 episodios cada una (52 episodios en total). En Latinoamérica, se transmitió por Cartoon Network y en 2020 por su canal hermano Tooncast. En España se emitió en Canal Plus. Hace una aparición en la serie animada Young Justice en el episodio 10 de la segunda temporada y aparece explícitamente en el episodio 14 de la segunda temporada. (es)

- Static Shock is an American superhero animated television series based on the Milestone Media/DC Comics superhero Static. It premiered on September 23, 2000, on the WB Television Network's Kids' WB programming block. Static Shock ran for four seasons, with 52 half-hour episodes in total. The show revolves around Virgil Hawkins, a 14-year old boy who uses the secret identity of "Static" after exposure to a mutagen gas during a gang fight which gave him electromagnetic powers. It was the first time that an African-American superhero was the titular character of their own broadcast animation series. Static Shock was produced by Warner Bros. Animation from a crew composed mostly of people from the company's past shows, but also with the involvement of two of the comic's creators, Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan. Static Shock had some alterations from the original comic book because it was oriented to a pre-teen audience. Although originally not intended to be a part of it, it soon became the fifth series of the DC Animated Universe beginning with its second season. The show approached several social issues, which was positively received by most television critics. Static Shock was nominated for numerous awards, including the Daytime Emmy. Some criticism was directed towards its jokes—which were said to be stale and too similar to the Spider-Man style—and animation, which was said to be unnatural and outdated. The series also produced some related merchandise, which sold poorly; McDuffie cited the low sales as one of the main factors behind the series' cancellation. In spite of this, its popularity revived interest in the original Milestone comic and introduced McDuffie to the animation industry. (en)

Foi exibida por quatro temporadas num total de 52 episódios. No Brasil, foi exibido pelo SBT no programa Bom Dia & Companhia e pelo canal Cartoon Network Brasil. Atualmente, é exibida pelo Tooncast de segunda a sexta às 18h30. O cenário e a base para os personagens foram inspiradas no personagem Super Choque e muitos episódios da série adaptam elementos dos quadrinhos, incluindo outras séries da Milestone Comics, como Blood Syndicate, de onde surgiu a inspiração para diversos dos "Bang Babies". Um dos vilões da série, Edwin Alva, foi baseado num personagem da série Hardware, enquanto o Centro Comunitário Freeman tem seu nome inspirado num dos personagens principais do título Icon. Dwayne McDuffie, fundador da Milestone e cocriador do Super Choque, manteve o controle de criação durante toda a série, chegando a escrever diversos episódios. No início, de forma similar aos quadrinhos originais, a série se apresenta fora do Universo DC, com personagens como Superman tratados como meramente fictícios. Entretanto, na segunda temporada, a série começa a exibir crossovers com personagens de séries animadas da DC, incluindo The New Batman Adventures, Batman do Futuro e Liga da Justiça. Uma versão envelhecida do personagem viria inclusive a aparecer num episódio em duas partes da série Justice da Justiça Sem Limites. (pt)
