The company AIR BURKINA, national airline of Burkina Faso, was created in 1967 as Air Volta. In August 1984 company was renamed Air Burkina after Upper Volta was renamed Burkina Faso by its president Thomas Sankara. In February 21 2001, the state of Burkina Faso sold 86% shares of the company to the consortium AKFED Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development which also owns Air Mali, and Air Uganda.
Air Burkina operates regional network serving domestic destination of Bobo-Dioulasso and West Africa's capitals Abidjan, Accra, Bamako, Cotonou, Dakar, Lome, Niamey, Libreville and Douala. Air Burkina also code-share weekly flight to Paris Orly which is served by Air France via Bamako.
