About this app

Sound Amplifier makes everyday conversations and surrounding sounds more accessible among people who are hard of hearing, using just your Android phone and a pair of headphones. Use Sound Amplifier to filter, augment and amplify sounds around you and on your device.

Features
• Reduce unwanted noise to recognise speech better.
• Focus on a speaker’s voice in noisy environments with conversation mode. (Available for Pixel 3 and above.)
• Listen to conversations, TV or lectures. For audio sources that are farther away, Bluetooth headphones are recommended. (Bluetooth headphones might have delayed sound transmission.)
• Personalise your listening experience for surrounding conversation or media playing on your device. You can reduce noise or boost low frequency, high frequency or quiet sounds. Set your preferences for both ears or separately for each ear.
• Turn Sound Amplifier on and off using the Accessibility button, a gesture or Quick Settings. Learn more about the Accessibility button, gesture and Quick Settings: https://support.google.com/accessibility/android/answer/7650693

Requirements
• Available for Android 8.1 and later.
• Pair your Android device with headphones.
• Conversation mode is currently available on Pixel 3 and above.

After installation on an S24 Ultra, and after I connected my Bluetooth headphones, it worked well. The provided controls also seemed to function as expected. On trying to run it a second time a couple of hours later, the app became very unresponsive and frequently froze. Also, it hadn't hooked up to audio properly. In the end, rather than fight it, I uninstalled it - my noise cancelling headphones are too useful to me to risk compromising them.

Great step forward, however not accessible enough for target audience. Like many people with actual hearing issues, I use Bluetooth enabled hearing aids. This service requires the use of wired headphones. You can immediately see how this becomes a problem. Whilst I would love to be able to use my phone as a remote mic, and would rate this 5 stars otherwise, the convenience of having to remove one's hearing aids, and plug in and equip wired headphones unfortunately completely negates any benfit

Bluetooth wasn't intended to support very low latency use cases like Sound Amplifier so we had to make the decision to support only wired headphones. Wireless headphones is a high priority for the Sound Amplifier team and we are actively working on potential solutions. Thank you for your feedback.

Surprisingly, a VERY acute audio receiver! I don't even recall I downloaded the app, discovering it some time after installing this devious sound receiver (amplifier), & devious by it's seemingly extremely basic but functional in nature UI, hides a variety of levels of adjustments. I'm not streaching the truth when I say it's able to pick up the sound of my stomach grumbling from 15cm away -inaudible for my ears naturally, to ever hear that. Even with my ears being CLOSER. GREAT WORK!
