Regression: Moving a protected mainspace article no longer protects the redirect
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Move a mainspace article with any kind of protection (e.g., semiprotection).

What happens?: The same protection is not applied to the newly created redirect.

What should have happened instead?: The same protection is applied to the newly created redirect.

Software version (skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
Visit the "from" links at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=protect&user=&page=&wpdate=&tagfilter=&subtype=move_prot (such as Raashi Khanna), and you will see that some of the mainspace redirects are not correctly (semi)protected.

However, Template:Football in Northern Ireland and Template:WikiProject RuPaul's Drag Race were correctly semiprotected. So, it appears that the bug only affects mainspace articles, not pages in other namespaces.

I suspect that the cause for this is the same as the one for T315591. If the cause turns out to be the same for both, then you may create a new task documenting the cause and merge both tasks into there.
