Holograph.

This is a manuscript of a poem by Caroline Weston, written Dec. 19, 1837; it was later printed with some minor changes in the Liberty Bell in 1839, under the title "The Church and the World." This manuscript and the printed version of the poem both begin with the same quotation from the Gospel of St. John: "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you."
