Yola–Nuru Nigeria is proud to announce the successful commemoration of the International Women’s Day 2024, spearheaded by the First Lady of Adamawa State, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Development and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The event, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including the State Governor of Adamawa State and the First Lady, the Deputy Governor, the Commissioner of Women’s Affairs and many representatives of the state government, the private sector and civil society actors. The keynote addresses by the Governor and First Lady highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and inclusion as pivotal agendas for Adamawa State. Additionally, the First Lady addressed other pressing issues concerning the plight of the girl child.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day was “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” In her speech, the Managing Director of Nuru Nigeria, Amy Gaman, emphasized the significance of recognizing and honoring women from all walks of life. Furthermore, in her speech, Amy Gaman noted, “Celebrating women, whether professionally or personally, is a sense of renewing our commitment to each and every woman in our community, be she a mother, a housewife, a college student, a political figure, a businessperson, or a career woman. Whoever she is, a woman must be intentional in her involvement in building our future.”
The event served as a platform to once again acknowledge women’s remarkable contributions to society and advocate for gender equity and women’s rights in Adamawa State and nation-wide. The keynote speakers, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, renowned scholars, and influential figures of the state, all emphasized the importance of fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
Nuru Nigeria extends a warm invitation to all members of the community to continue celebrating the achievements and resilience of women, especially in the agricultural sector during this year’s Gender Equality Month. Nuru Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to empowering women and creating a brighter, more equitable future for all.
