Stephanus Langton ad murum Ecclesiae Cathedralis Cantuariensis sculptus

Stephanus Langton, nuncupatione a discipulis data "Stephanus de Lingua Tonante" (natus annis circiter 1150[1] seu 1155;[2] mortuus die 9 Iulii 1228) fuit alumnus (ab anno circiter 1170), discipulus Petri Comestoris (quem "Manducatorem nostrum" nuncupavit)[3] et magister (c. 1180-1207) in universitate Parisiensi. Ab his annis fuit amicus papae Innocentii III, cuius iussu archiepiscopus Cantuariensis anno 1207 creatus est, nolente rege Iohanne. Regem Henricum III, Iohannis successorem, coronavit. Fuit filius alter natu Henrici Langton, frater igitur Gualteri qui in expeditione sacra contra Albigenses militavit necnon Simonis qui (archiepiscopus Eboracensis electus sed iussu Innocentii deiectus) archidiaconus Cantuariensis iuxta Stephanum meruit.
