I have what GoodNES 3.10 claims is the verified good dump of 3D World Runner. It doesn't have the anti-piracy message as depicted on The Cutting Room Floor. In fact, everything from 0x47D0 to 0x8010 is 00s. I tried searching for the text but it's not present in the ROM.
That text does appear in the FDS version of the game, Tobidase Daisakusen, however. Is there more than one version of the US ROM or should the article be amended to specify that the text only appears in the Japanese FDS version? Also, I noticed that 0x1919C contains the following text: ** PAUSE **... ...PLEASE WAIT...PLACE SIDE B... GAME OVER ...S Q U A R E ... PRESENTS ...WORLD RUNNER... (C) 1987 ... BY: NASIR ...PRESS START ...TO BEGIN ...PLACE SIDE A part of which is obviously text left over from the the FDS version. (Although on the FDS disk image, instead of WORLD RUNNER it says JUMP-N-JACK. Jack is the main character's name in Japan.) The part from 'S Q U A R E' to 'BEGIN' is the text that displays at the bottom of the screen during the attract mode (ie. when you let the game run instead of pressing start.) I suppose that might be worth mentioning in the article as well. |
