New publication on public procurement
A paper by Andrei Yakovlev, Olga Balaeva and Andrey Tkachenko entitled "Estimation of procurement costs incurred by public customers: a case study of a Russian region" was published in the Journal of Public Procurement. This paper shows how procurement costs can be calculated using a formalized survey of public customers. This methodology was tested with a representative group of public customers operating in one region of the Russian Federation.
YOUNG SCHOLARS CONFERENCE 2018
Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia (CREECA) organized a two-day conference for young researchers YOUNG SCHOLARS CONFERENCE 2018, dedicated to the study of Russia, at the end of July. The conference was held for the first time and turned out to be very diverse in topics. Ekaterina Borisova, ICSID Deputy Director, was among its participants. She presented her project «Generalized Trust, Preferences for Redistribution and Institutions», co-authored by Denis Ivanov and Koen Sсhoors.

ICSID researcher fellows Israel Marques and Noah Buckley participated in the8th Annual General Conference of the European Political Science Association (EPSA) on June 21-23, 2018. This year’s EPSA conference took place in the Apothecaries’ Wing of the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna – a UNESCO world heritage site.

Participation in the 10 th Joint IOS/APB/EACES Summer Academy
The Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) together with EACES and the Academy for Civic Education (APB) organized their 10th Joint Summer Academy on Central and Eastern Europe. The event titled "Firm Behavior in Central and Eastern Europe: Productivity, Innovation and Trade” took place in a German town of Tutzing on June 11-13, 2018. ICSID research fellow Irina Levina presented her research project on decentralization of firms "Does firms' decentralization pay off in weak institutions setup? Decentralization and investment of Russian firms" during one of the panels.

7th Annual Conference of the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID) «Political Economy of Development: Historical and Contemporary Factors» took place at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow on June 7-9, 2018.
ICSID academic supervisor Timothy Frye received an HSE award
Timothy Frye was awarded a Medal of Honor from HSE for his active involvement in the work of the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID). The award was presented personally by HSE Academic Supervisor Professor Evgeny Yasin during one of the sessions of the 7th ICSID Conference "Political Economy of Development: Historical and Contemporary Factors" on June 8.
