Long March 1D adalah versi perbaikan dari roket Long March tahap 1 untuk kerajinan badan antariksa China, terutama untuk thrustor tahap 1, dari 1.020 kilonewtons ke 1101,2 kilonewtons, juga meningkatkan kinerja untuk tahap 2 dan tahap 3.
Peningkatan Long March 1D bisa meluncurkan varian satelit LEO, orientasi satelit dapat berputar atau non-rotating. Penerbangan pertama pada bulan November 1997 berhasil.
