Hanbargon jaio zen, aita ingelesa eta ama alemaniarra zituela. 1933an Londresera joan zen eta gizarte inglesari argazkiak ateratzen hasi zen. Bere argazkilariak Lilliput, Picture Post eta Harper's Bazaar bezalako aldizkarietan argitaratu ziren. Informazio Ministerioak 1940ko Londresko bonben aurkako aterpeetako bizitza dokumentatzeko agindu zion. Erretratuen, biluzien eta paisaien argazkiak ere egin zituen.
