Content Based Retrieval and Navigation with Images in the Microcosm model
This paper presents an overview of novel extensions to the Microcosm open hypermedia architecture which facilitate content based retrieval and navigation with non-textual media such as images, video and sound. MAVIS, (Microcosm Architecture for Video Image and Sound) extends the area of application of generic and computed links to non-textual media. Examples of the use of shape and colour for content based retrieval and navigation are presented.
