witch house (uncountable)

  1. (music, neologism) A style of music characterized by chopped and screwed hip-hop soundscapes, industrial and noise experimentation, and the use of synthesizers, drum machines, obscure samples, droning repetition and heavily altered, ethereal, indiscernible vocals. [from late 2000s]
    Synonyms: haunted house, drag
    • 2010 September 25, Tim Jonze, “Witch house and the musicians taking us back to the future”, in The Guardian[1]:
Inspired by early rave and dream-pop, witch house also takes its cue from the "chopped and screwed" remix technique so prevalent in early 90s hip-hop.
  2. Used other than figuratively or idiomatically: see witch,‎ house.
