paljo
Finnish
editEtymology
editFrom Proto-Finnic *paljo. Related to Estonian palju, Ingrian paljo and Votic palʹlʹo.
Pronunciation
editAdjective
editpaljo (comparative enempi, superlative enin)
- voluminous, much, plenty
- Synonym: runsas
Usage notes
editThe more commonly used adverb is paljon, but it is common nowadays to use inflected forms from paljo when needed such as in
- paljollako vähenee? ― by how much will it reduce?
- kiitos paljosta ― thank you for the much (work you did)
contrast with
- kiitos paljon ― thank you very much
Use as an adjective directly is increasingly uncommon.
