• This term mostly encompasses associations that can be compared with (often somewhat preppy) sororities and fraternities and the "Greek life" in Anglophone countries, and is not to be confused with the term studievereniging, which in the Netherlands refers to student-run associations that lack such preppy aspects and focus mostly on socializing and study-related activities.
