Romanian

edit

Etymology

edit

Ultimately from Latin scrobis through a Vulgar Latin form *scorbis after metathesis. The final result in Romanian may be explained through a root *scorbula or through a lost Romanian word *scorb and its plural scorburi. Compare Aromanian scrob, cf. Italian scroba.
