Etymology
editFrom Proto-Brythonic *lliw, from Proto-Celtic *līwos, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)leh₃y- (“bluish”). Cognate with Breton liv, Cornish liw, and, more distantly, with Old English slāh (“sloe”) and Latin liveo (“to have bluish colour”).[1]
