editPossibly ultimately from Sanskrit हृदय (hṛdaya, “soul, mind, spirit”, literally “heart”), according to Zorc (1982). Compare Pali hadaya (“feeling”, literally “heart”), Old Javanese ḥṛdaya (“mind”), and Indonesian daya. Many sources say it is from Cebuano haraya, but Zorc (1982) does not believe so.
