bahadır

Azerbaijani
editEtymology
editThe direct etymon is likely Persian بهادر, which is however cognate with Orkhon Old Turkic 𐰉𐱃𐰆𐰺 (b¹t¹ur¹ /batur/) and Middle Mongol ᠪᠠᠭᠠᠲᠤᠷ (baɣatur), (contemporary Mongolian баатар (baatar)). The ultimate source is uncertain, as cognates are found in Turkic, Mongolic, Tungusic, Iranic sources and, possibly, Avestan sources.
