From Middle Irish cúa (cavity, hollow), from Old Irish cúas (hollow), possibly from Proto-Celtic *kow-sto-, from *kuwo-, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱowh₁ós (hollow), from *ḱewh₁- (to swell).
