From Old Irish corca,[1] from Proto-Celtic *korkyom (compare Welsh ceirch, Cornish kergh, Breton kerc'h), from Proto-Indo-European *kokro- (compare dialectal Swedish hagre, Ancient Greek κάχρυς (kákhrus)).
