editCalque of Mandarin 夏家店上層文化/夏家店上层文化 (Xiàjiādiàn shàngcéng wénhuà), from 夏家店 (Xiàjiādiàn, “Xiajiadian”) + 上層/上层 (shàngcéng, “upper strata”) + 文化 (wénhuà, “culture”), with Xiajiadian being the location of the type site, which was discovered at a higher level than that of the Lower Xiajiadian culture.
