Etymology

edit

An older borrowing, probably from French moufle (mitten), from Late Latin muffula, possibly of Germanic origin. The word may have been merged with French mule (slipper), which was borrowed into western Central Franconian as Muul (Ripuarian), probably via Middle Dutch mule, muyle.
