ぽつん • (potsun) 

1. by oneself; in a lonely manner

   小(こ)屋(や)がぽつんと立(た)っている。

   Koya ga potsun to tatteiru.

   The cottage is standing alone.

2. only, simply

     まるで子(こ)供(ども)か何(なに)かのように彼(かれ)は言(こと)葉(ば)を一(ひと)言(こと)、一(ひと)言(こと)、ぽつんぽつんととぎれがちにいった。

     Maru de kodomo ka nanika no yō ni kare wa kotoba o hitokoto, hitokoto, potsun-potsun to togire gachi ni itta.
