Etymology
editAccording to Turner, probably of non-Indo-Aryan origin. In the meaning of "cold", probably contaminated with descendants of Proto-Indo-European *gel- (“to be cold”) (whence English cold and Latin gelū), compare जळ्हु (jaḷhu, “cool”).
