Ideogrammic compound (會意会意) : (walk) + (short-tail bird). A bird can only walk forward not backward, hence implying "forward". Shuowen Jiezi interprets it as Phono-semantic compound (形聲形声, OC *ʔslins) : semantic + abbreviated phonetic (OC *rins).
