Persian

Etymology

edit

Borrowed from Hindustani کِھڑْکی / खिड़की (khiṛkī), possibly via Mughal Persian, ultimately from Sanskrit खटक्किका (khaṭakkikā). Unlikely to have been transmitted via Pashto کړکۍ (kaṛkay), due to major vowel changes in Pashto that did not occur in Dari.
