- bar āb-i nīl guḏar na-mē-tawān kard yakē ān ki ābē buzurg ast u duwwum ki nahang bisyār dar ān bāšad ki har haywānē ki ba āb uftad dar hāl furō mē-barand u gūyand ba hawālī-yi šahr-i misr dar rāh tilasmē karda-and ki mardum rā zahmat na-rasānand u sotōr rā u ba hēč jā-yi dīgar kasē rā zahra na-bāšad dar āb šudan ba yak tīr-i partāb dawr az šahr.
- One cannot cross the water of the Nile, first because it is a large body of water, and second, because there are many alligators inside, so that any animal which falls into the water is dragged under all at once. They say that in the environs of the city, a talisman has been set up on the road so that people and animals will not be in danger. Nobody has the courage to go into the water in a place other than within one arrowshot's width of the city.
